When there is no Belgian diplomatic or consular mission in the country, Belgian citizens can seek European consular assistance. This means that they can turn to the embassy or the consulate of any other Member State of the European Union in case of a genuine emergency: death, serious injuries caused by an accident, grave illness, repatriation for medical reasons, arrest or detention, loss or theft of their passport.
